THE HISTORY OF THE LIME
In 2016, something happened remarkable happened. Something born from a need so raw, so deeply felt, it demanded action. That something was The Lime.
What was the need? It was the longing for a multicultural platform where communities could connect. Not as polished, packaged versions of themselves, but as their true, unapologetic selves. A space where you didn’t have to present your identity in digestible bites or conform to someone else’s idea of who you should be. The Lime was (and is) a place where you could walk in as you are, celebrate who you are, and never fear judgement.
At times, The Lime felt like a networking event. Other times, it exploded with the energy of a dance party. Every gathering featured a panel discussion, voices that inspired, educated, and moved us. Then came live performances, bringing the room alive with soul, rhythm, and creativity. Finally, we’d party, drinks flowing, music spinning, strangers becoming friends.
Over the years, The Lime became a home for some of the most dynamic voices of its time. R&B sensations Foushee and Ayden, Financial Rrailblazer Ash Cash, Imani Ellis, the visionary behind Culture Con, Writer and Creative director Julissa Contreras, Afro-Dominicano, MANTRY Founder Reggie Milligan, Mr. Cory of Mr. Cory Cookies, and so many others!
These weren’t just names, they were stories. People whose journeys reflected our own. People who reminded us of what’s possible when we dare to dream, connect, and create.
In 2020, the music stopped.
When the world went into lockdown, The Lime went dark. The pandemic exposed something profound…our need for connection. The isolation was not only felt physical but emotional and we felt that truth in every lonely moment, every missed hug, and every virtual conversation.
Something else happened during that time. The realization of just how vital The Lime is. A reminder that we are stronger together, that community isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity.
Coming out of the pandemic, social isolation and loneliness have reached epidemic proportions. People everywhere are yearning not just for interaction, but for meaningful connection. So, The Lime is back! Now operating under the banner of Culture Lime, we are a nonprofit committed to something bigger than ourselves:
Restoring human connection.
Sparking creativity.
Strengthening communities.
We do this through culturally driven experiences designed to bring people together with shared purpose and genuine connection.
The story of The Lime is our story. It’s the story of what happens when we show up for each other, when we create spaces where everyone belongs, and when we fight against the isolation that seeks to divide us.
Now, we’re inviting you to join us. To show up. To connect. To Lime.
